The new Cervelo R5 Disc Dura Aca Di2 12 Speed Road Bike has one job, get to the top, fast. But for all the glory and fanfare that comes with a summit finish, they’re rarely the only climb of the day. And while a race isn’t usually won on a descent, they can certainly be lost. A climbing bike that can’t carve a hairpin is a bit like a cup of decaf coffee.

Cervelo R5 Dura Ace Di2 Disc Road Bike

Faster in every direction!

This is the fourth iteration of the Cervelo R5, and while weight and stiffness have varied over the years, the handling, poise, and unmatched prowess on a descent have been consistent since day one.

Reducing stiffness in a climbing bike might seem slightly outlandish but Cervélo has dived right in with the new R5.

The fork has been refined with dialled back longitudinal stiffness, the head tube stiffness has also been reduced and compliance has been added by dropping the top tube.

Compared to the previous generation R5, Cervélo’s stiffest ever road frame and who’s climbing abilities ‘came at the expense of a bit of bone-jarring’, and the newly refined R5 not only promises efficient and fast climbing but also ‘less fatigue and more effective recovery’.

The new Cervelo R5 frameset benefits from a claimed 16% weight reduction, making it 130g lighter than the previous model.

It weighs in at just over 1kg, with the new frame at 703g and new fork at 329g.

And Cervélo hasn’t stopped the trim there. The handlebar and stem have apparently shed 12g and the seatpost is 20g lighter too.

Cervélo says that even though aerodynamics weren’t a focus for the new R5 (like they would be for the S5 and P5), the cables are now internal, reducing drag by a claimed 25g.

Fourth iteration of the R5, and while weight and stiffness have varied over the years, the handling, poise, and unmatched prowess on a descent have been consistent since day one.

Fitted with Reserve 34mm Front - 37mm Rear carbon rims mounted on DT Swiss 240 Hubs. The Cervelo R5 is supplied with the new 12 Speed Semi-Wireless Shimano Dura-Ace R9200 Di2 Groupset to compliment the over all weight and ride of the new Cervelo R5 Bicycle.
